Shakespeare Classes: Stage to Screen

This eight week Shakespeare course is a dynamic approach to demystifying his works, exploring set Shakespeare texts and allowing the actor to create believable characters and truthful Shakespeare performances for both the stage and the screen.

Designed for anyone regardless of Shakespeare experience, these classes are for those who have an interest in the crafting of Shakespeare characters and acting for the stage and screen, on top of a willingness to learn. Those who have completed the Introduction to Shakespeare one-day intensive class may particularly benefit from taking this course.

The course will take place over eight weeks, with classes in the first four weeks focusing on Shakespeare for the stage and classes in the following four weeks exploring how to transfer Shakespeare to the screen. You will be taught by two specialist City Academy Acting tutors who both have vast experience teaching, performing, and directing Shakespeare.

Throughout this course you will benefit from an informal performance to friends and family in Week Four, as well as receiving your final filmed monologue in Week Eight.

COURSE CONTENT

Over the duration of the course you will work towards:

Understanding the rhythm and flow with iambic pentameter
Delivering a speech with confidence for the stage
Connecting meaning to text and discovering character objectives
Working on character depth for the screen
Exploring a characters' inner conflict and emotion
Delivering speeches for camera
Creating the "full world" for screen
