Our Blues Guitar lessons will teach you a range of skills to introduce improvisation and new rhythmic styles to your practice.

Perfect if you already have some guitar experience and want to learn this fundamental form that exists in just about every genre of music. Play Jazz and Blues standards with confidence alongside developing your ability to improvise.

Building on our beginners' guitar course, you will continue to learn to play as a group. However, our professional tutors will introduce solo guitar playing as you gain confidence.

WHAT WILL BE TAUGHT ON THESE BLUES GUITAR LESSONS?

This guitar course content will include:

  • A range of improvisation approaches and skills
  • Rhythm and lead guitar licks and examples
  • Common Chord Progressions and Jazz/Blues Standards
  • How to 'Play the changes'
  • Scales: How to apply them and practicing them to maximise efficiency
  • Introduce some theory and technique elements that will help bridge the gap between Blues and Jazz

OUR APPROACH

Like all of our music lessons, you will work as a group while still receiving individual feedback. You will work learn two popular songs that can be performed in front of friends and family.

WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS COURSE?

Students will have the ability to read tab and chord diagrams. Students should also have experience changing between chords and some experience playing basic melodies/riffs. Ideally, students will have completed the City Academy Guitar Beginners Course. Please note, you will need to bring your own guitar.

Good spoken and written English is required.

BY THE END OF THE COURSE, WHAT WILL I HAVE ACHIEVED?

You will have:

  • Fundamental techniques and knowledge to be able to play rhythm and lead guitar in a blues style
  • Learned the historical and stylistic elements that create the blues sound and genre
  • The ability to create a great practice schedule and knowledge of key London Jam nights to help them develop after the course has finished
  • Be able to play with other musicians and understand the common musician terms used to communicate in a jam setting

AFTER I COMPLETE THIS COURSE, WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS IN MY TRAINING?

Students may wish to repeat a Level 2 guitar course or attend a City Academy Open Mic event to put their skills into practice.
