You’ll learn simple steps, practise dancing with a partner, and start to feel the rhythm and musicality that make Salsa so addictive. Intersted in getting started right away? You can take the next step and join our Beginners Salsa Course without any prior experience, where you’ll build your skills week by week, master more advanced steps, and dance with confidence. No need to bring a partner, it's a social class so you'll pair up with multiple people through the taster class. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN In your Salsa Dance Taster Class, you will: Learn some basic Salsa steps. Experience the flowing musicality and movement of Salsa. Put basic steps into a short sequence with turns. Experience partner work in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Get a taste of what you’ll learn in our full Beginners Salsa Course. Meet like-minded people in a social setting. USEFUL INFORMATION What is a Salsa Dance Taster Class? A one-off beginner-friendly session designed to introduce you to the basics of Salsa, including posture, rhythm, and simple partner work. What are the benefits of taking a taster before joining a course? A taster helps you try the style, meet the tutor, and experience the pace and atmosphere before committing to a full course. You’ll gain confidence, learn the fundamentals, and see if Salsa is the right fit for you. Do I need a partner? No, you can come on your own and we’ll rotate partners during the class so everyone gets a chance to dance. Do I need any dance experience? No previous dance experience is needed. Our tutors will guide you step by step in a relaxed, welcoming environment. What should I wear? Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, along with supportive shoes. For inspiration, read our definitive guide on what to wear to a dance class. What Is a Leader The leader is the dancer who decides the direction of movement. They give clear signals that invite the other dancer to move in a certain way. What Is a Follower The follower is the dancer who listens to those signals and responds with their own movement. They don’t guess—they feel the leader’s guidance and move with them, in the same rhythm and direction. They pay close attention to touch and timing. They follow smoothly, adding their own energy and style. They move with control, not just being led—they dance back. A good follower is not passive—they are active, expressive, and always ready. Can the roles of leader/follower change? Yes! Anyone can be a leader or a follower. Some people learn both. It doesn’t depend on gender—just on who wants to guide and who wants to respond in the moment. In social dancing, partners sometimes even switch roles during the same song. What happens if I enjoy the taster? If you enjoy the class, you can join our Beginners Salsa Course, where you’ll expand your repertoire, learn new turns and partner combinations, and build the confidence to dance Salsa anywhere.
