Simple and beautiful, black and white images often have more impact than colour images and require a different style of photography. With our Black and White Photography Courses, you will discover the intensity and nuance of black and white photography. Focusing solely on light and shape, you will learn how to take your monochrome pictures to the next level. Our policy of teaching in small groups means you’ll receive individual attention to get the most out of this one day workshop. New to photography? Before attending this course you will need a basic knowledge of aperture, camera lenses, shutter speed and ISO including exposure modes. If you’re new to photography, then you may find it helpful to sign up to one of our Beginner Courses first. Black & White Photography Essentials Develop your understanding of monochrome photography and how to create striking black and white images. Light & Tone Explore the relationship between light, colour, black, white and grey tones to strengthen your visual awareness. Subjects & Composition Learn what makes a strong black and white photograph and how to choose subjects that work well in monochrome. Colour vs Monochrome Understand when to use colour and when black and white can create a stronger, more powerful image. Black & White Conversion Discover key post-production techniques for converting images into black and white. Creative Monochrome Styles Explore different monochrome effects and finishes, including sepia and bromoil-inspired styles. Software & Plugins Learn about professional software and plugins that can help you create polished black and white images. Step outside and you are surrounded by brilliant shoot locations, from the Southbank, Leake Street Arches and Lower Marsh Market to Waterloo Bridge, the Thames riverside and the bold architecture of the National Theatre. It is an ideal setting for exploring studio lighting, portraiture, street photography, architecture, composition and natural light, with the city providing a constantly changing backdrop for your work. Do I need my own camera? Please bring a mirrorless camera, a DSLR camera or a compact camera with full manual controls, your camera’s manual, a fully charged battery, an empty memory card, comfortable shoes and an external flash (if owned, we can supply them if not). If you don’t have all of this please don't worry, we can provide all equipment as needed. Want to learn more?
