Over eight weeks, you’ll build your skills in grooves, body isolations, and musicality, whilst developing the confidence to perform with style. In conjunction with City Academy's Commercial Company, you'll be rehearsing weekly in a creative, inclusive space as you work towards performing a fully choreographed routine live on a London stage. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN Learn the core elements of commercial dance, including musicality, isolations and groove. Explore fresh choreography inspired by a leading commercial choreographer. Develop your stage presence and performance skills. Build technique, flexibility, and overall physical strength. Learn a new choreographed routine, add to the phrase each week and perform it live on stage for an audience of your friends and family. BY THE END OF THIS COURSE, YOU WILL Have a strong grasp of commercial dance foundations, including groove, isolation, and musicality Be able to perform dynamic choreography with confidence and style Understand how to project stage presence and connect with an audience Improve your overall dance technique, strength, and flexibility Be performance-ready with a fully choreographed routine Experience the thrill of dancing live on a professional London stage 📋 EXPERIENCE REQUIRED This course is ideal for dancers who have completed at least one improver-level Street or Commercial dance course and are ready to progress creatively and technically ⏰ WHEN IS THE PERFORMANCE The performance for this course happens in the last week of the course. All information including show times, venue and call sheet will be provided during your course USEFUL INFORMATION Do I need previous dance experience to join this course? Yes – this is a performance-focused course, so some prior dance experience is required. You don’t need to be a professional, but you should be comfortable picking up choreography at a moderate pace and have a basic understanding of movement and rhythm. What style of dance will I be learning? This course focuses on commercial dance, a vibrant mix of styles often seen in music videos, adverts, and live stage performances. You’ll explore choreography inspired by top artists and current industry trends. What should I bring to class? Please bring a water bottle, towel and something to film yourself with (to help you rehearse at home). Knee pads are optional but recommended for floor work. What should I wear? Wear comfortable clothing you can move in and trainers or dance sneakers with good support. Clothing should allow for full movement and expression. Will I be dancing with other performers during the course? Yes – you’ll be joining our Commercial Dance Company for the full 8 weeks of rehearsals. This group is made up of passionate, experienced dancers who are incredibly welcoming and supportive. You’ll be working alongside them each week to learn, refine, and rehearse a dynamic routine together, culminating in a live performance on stage. It’s a brilliant opportunity to train in a company-style setting while growing your confidence and performance skills.
