During our Painting the Figure courses you will learn to work with new materials, master paint handling, and 'alla prima' techniques, learn about tonal values, colour, and how to represent textures of skin and fabrics. There will also be discussion on relevant artists such as Freud, Degas, and Schiele. Having mastered a foundation of techniques, you will work on a longer pose over the last two sessions of the art lesson under the guidance of professional art tutors. You will be encouraged to find an emotive aspect to your work, and develop your own approach and response to painting the figure. City Academy's art studio has everything you need to get creative. All materials, including paper, brushes and other art supplies, will be provided. PAINTING THE FIGURE COURSES - CONTENT Based in our dedicated Central London art studio, on this course you will; Work on observational drawing Study proportion, scale, space, tone, and perspective Develop and create a limited palette Work at an easel and feel confident with your standing technique Learn to sketch with graphite, charcoal, and pastels Learn colour mixing and brush techniques Paint a variety of life models both nude and clothed Explore creating the texture of fabrics on the canvas Take part in an end of course group crit presentation 📍 WHERE Based in our dedicated art studio in Central London ✏️ TRAINING Learn from professional artists and experienced art practitioners 📊 LEVEL Suitable for students who have completed a life drawing course or with some previous art and drawing experience 🎥 EQUIPMENT Basic materials provided including acrylics & water-based oil paint.
