In this practical course, led by a professional actor, you will take a look at the industry, equipping yourself with the practical tools needed to approach agents, casting directors and garner auditions. Whether you’re interested in screen acting to boost your confidence, enjoy the thrill of on-screen storytelling or join the industry as a professional - this Level 3 course is for you.

Ideal for those with acting experience gained through City Academy’s Screen Acting Level 1 and Level 2 course or equivalent, this Level 3 course is our most advanced part-time screen acting course. In it you'll more discussion about the industry as well as how to create your work film work.

Screen Acting - Level 3 gives you a practical, multi-tiered skills of acting for television and film. Not only will you learn the skills to thrive in front of the camera, the course provides the perfect opportunity to receive vital individual feedback on audition etiquette, approaching agents, headshots and understanding your casting type.

Each day focuses on different aspects of acting for screen, be it TV, Film or YouTube The course focuses on two of the main pillars of a showreel - the monologue and the duologue. Throughout this practical course and under the guidance of an experienced acting coach, you’ll choose, rehearse and film each text using a DSLR camera. Practical exercises will strengthen your improvisation technique and character work as you move through the entire audition process, learning how to best showcase your performance strengths. You’ll receive an industry-standard headshot from a professional photographer and your filmed texts to prepare for your next showreel. The course concludes with a casting Q&A and feedback.

New to screen acting?

If you’re just starting out, we recommend beginning with Screen Acting – An Introduction. This friendly beginner course will help you build confidence on camera, learn essential screen acting techniques and understand how to perform naturally in front of the lens.

Screen Acting Level 3 Weekly Breakdown

Week 1: MAKING YOUR OWN WORK

In the morning you'll have a session on how to make a film project a reality, discuss your casting type and watch a short film followed by a Q&A. In the afternoon you will be working on your monologue selection ready for filming the following week.

WEEK 2: FILMING

In the morning you'll be rehearsing and shooting your monologues on a DSLR camera, having two takes. In the afternoon you will have a duologue script selection ready for filming the following week, including character work and improvisations.

WEEK 3: FILMING YOUR DUOLOGUES

In the morning you’ll work on script and character work to be done in a scene. Throughout the day you’ll film the scene in a 2 shot and close ups.

WEEK 4:HEADSHOTS AND CASTING

In the morning you'll have a headshot session with a professional photographer and receive two edited shots to take away with you. In the afternoon you will work on casting and film a tape for review by a visiting casting director followed by feedback and a Q&A session.

Who is this course for?
This course is for actors with prior screen experience, ideally those who have completed Screen Acting Level 2 or have equivalent professional or training experience. It’s designed for those ready to refine their acting craft and take on more emotionally complex and technically demanding screen roles.
What will I work on in Level 3?
You’ll work on advanced screen scripts from film and television, with a focus on emotional truth, character consistency, and scene complexity. You’ll also learn to work under professional filming conditions, maintaining continuity and adjusting performances for different takes and camera setups.
Is this course suitable for professional actors?
Yes — it’s ideal for emerging professionals or experienced actors looking to strengthen their screen acting technique, build showreel content, or prepare for auditions and roles in film and TV.
Will I receive feedback on my performance?
Absolutely. Tutors provide individual feedback throughout, and scenes are reviewed in class so you can evaluate your progress on screen.
Will I receive a copy of the footage?
All filming will be watched in class and you will receive notes from your tutor in class. You'll be working with professional scripts under copyright and watching together in class ensures that everyone feels free to explore and engage without concern of scenes being publicly viewed.
