It’s the perfect, playful space for anyone that is new to acting or has little to no performance experience. Enjoy a part-time rehearsal schedule and learn the fundamentals of acting technique in a supportive, group environment whilst rehearsing for your very own live production. Led by an experienced theatre director, Debut’s weekly rehearsal schedule will slowly introduce new elements of core acting skills and culminate in a complimentary performance for friends and family. In terms of scripts, your director will select either a compilation of interconnected scenes or a scripted play from a contemporary author. No audition, just sign up and we’ll see you in rehearsal. Whilst it's not essential, if you'd prefer to learn some core techniques before joining Debut, we recommend our Acting Beginners course . Our tutors are active theatre-makers who bring industry insight and a passion for nurturing new talent. LINN JOHANSSON Linn Johansson is an actor, theatre maker and singer/songwriter. Linn regularly leads Debut and specialises in collaborative processes and multidisciplinary work. CORDON WARENCKE Gordon is an actor from London who studied at De Leon Drama School in Richmond, Surrey. His first film role was in the award winning film, My Beautiful Laundrette playing opposite Daniel Day-Lewis MAJID MEHDIZADEH Majid is an actor (Luke Jerdy is his professional name), theatre director, writer and teacher with over ten years professional experience in the TV, Film and Theatre industry. WHO CAN I JOIN?Anyone, 18 and over, is welcome to join this company. The Debut Theatre Company is most suitable for beginners. USEFUL INFORMATION Do I need any previous acting experience? No experience is required. This company is specifically designed for beginners. Whether you’re new to the stage or returning after a long break, you’ll be supported in a friendly and inclusive environment. Will I get a speaking role? Yes, absolutely. Every company member is cast in the final production and given a speaking part. Casting, led by the Director, is tailored to each individual’s strengths and comfort level, ensuring you feel confident on stage. How many people are in the company? Each company is limited to around 12–16 participants. This ensures plenty of individual attention and rehearsal time while fostering a close-knit ensemble. Can my friends and family come to the show? Absolutely. You’ll have the opportunity to invite guests, and a link to free tickets will be sent to you before the performance date. What should I wear or bring to rehearsals? Wear comfortable clothing you can move in easily and bring a bottle of water. Scripts will be provided; you may also want to bring a notebook for notes and character work. What scripts will we be performing? Directors will select whether to produce either a play or collection of scenes - this is often done after the first session. In any case, they usually work with contemporary texts that require minimal set and costume. This allows for a focus on the actor and their craft. Is there a follow-on course after this one? Yes. Many of our Debut Theatre Company actors go on to join our Assemble Theatre Company. Your director will be happy to advise you on next steps.
