You’ll gain the skills and confidence to dance socially at weddings, events, and nights out—while improving coordination, rhythm, and posture. What Is the difference between a Leader and a Follower What Is a Leader The leader is the dancer who gently shows where the movement will go. They give clear signals—using their hands, body, and timing—to invite the other dancer to move in a certain way. They start the dance. They decide when to step, turn, or change direction. They use body movement (not words) to guide the partner. A good leader doesn’t force or drag—they move clearly and with care, like saying, “Let’s go this way together.” What Is a Follower The follower is the dancer who listens to those signals and responds with their own movement. They don’t guess—they feel the leader’s guidance and move with them, in the same rhythm and direction. They pay close attention to touch and timing. They follow smoothly, adding their own energy and style. They move with control, not just being led—they dance back. A good follower is not passive—they are active, expressive, and always ready. Can the Roles Change? Yes! Anyone can be a leader or a follower. Some people learn both. It doesn’t depend on gender—just on who wants to guide and who wants to respond in the moment. USEFUL INFORMATION Do I need a partner to join the class? No partner is required! You can join solo, and you’ll rotate partners throughout the class so everyone has the opportunity to dance and learn together. What should I wear to class? Wear something comfortable that allows easy movement - smart-casual or activewear is perfect. Smooth-soled shoes are ideal for turning and gliding. I’m completely new to dancing. Will I be okay? Absolutely! Our beginners’ classes are designed for complete newcomers. Your tutor will guide you step-by-step through the basics at an easy pace. How long is the course? Our beginner courses typically run for several weeks, with each session focusing on different dances and techniques to help you progress confidently. Will I learn both Ballroom and Latin styles? Yes! The programme covers both Standard Ballroom (like Waltz and Quickstep) and Latin Ballroom (like Rumba and Cha Cha) so you’ll experience a wide range of styles. OUR APPROACH This class will cover all the techniques necessary to learn this beautiful art form, steps are broken down for easy learning.
