It is suitable for more advanced students who want to work on their performance, agility and stamina. You will have completed our Contemporary Improvers 2 course or equivalent elsewhere. Useful Information What is the main difference between this course and the Improvers level The Intermediate course introduces more complex and demanding choreography, greater focus on performance dynamics, and a deeper exploration of contemporary techniques. While Improvers solidifies foundational skills, Intermediate challenges you with faster-paced phrases, detailed technical refinement, and more expressive interpretation. Who is this course suitable for? This class is aimed at dancers with a strong grasp of contemporary technique—typically those who have completed several Improvers-level courses or have equivalent experience. It’s best suited to confident movers looking to push their physical and expressive abilities further. What techniques will I develop in this course? You’ll explore advanced elements of contemporary styles such as Release, Graham, Cunningham, and Contact Improvisation, with an emphasis on fluidity, precision, and musicality. Expect longer sequences, more floorwork, and creative challenges. What should I wear to class? Comfortable, close-fitting clothing that allows full range of movement is best—think leggings, fitted tops, and no loose jewellery. Most dancers work in bare feet or socks, depending on the studio floor. Will we be learning choreography or improvisation? Both. Each class typically includes technical warm-ups, set phrases across the floor or in centre, and time for improvisation or creative exploration, helping you develop both precision and personal style. Can I repeat this course? Yes, many dancers repeat Intermediate courses to continue progressing and refining their technique before moving on to advanced-level training.
