This advanced-level course is designed for professional, working or auditioning actors who are ready to deepen their scene study, sharpen their rehearsal process, and challenge their approach to performance. Working in a collaborative, high-expectation environment, you’ll prepare, rehearse and perform scenes from plays or films, receiving in-depth, personalised feedback every step of the way. The course culminates in a formal showcase to a small audience, followed by a Q&A with an agent or casting director. Actors are encouraged to invite industry connections to the showcase. Please note: This course requires early sign up as participating students will be allocated a partner in advance of the course. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN By the end of this course you will: Prepare and perform a 10-minute scene to a professional standard Rehearse intensively with a scene partner, developing collaborative skills Strengthen your process for breaking down scripts and understanding character Work with in-depth feedback to refine and enhance your performance choices Revisit and re-present your scene after incorporating direction and exercises Learn through observation, note-taking and analysis of other actors’ work Present your final scene in a final live showcase Gain insights into the business from an agent or casting director in a Q&A session COURSE STRUCTURE Pre-Course Preparation: After a preliminary online meeting, you will be paired with a scene partner and given a 10-minute scene from a play or film. You will be expected to read and understand the full script, rehearse outside of class, and arrive on the first day off-book, with props and costume choices for your initial showing. First Presentation: In the opening sessions, each pair presents their scene to the group. Your tutor will then workshop the scene with you, offering detailed, actionable feedback and exercises. Ongoing Development: Between classes, you will rehearse with your partner to incorporate feedback. You are expected to attend and actively observe other actors’ workshops, taking notes to learn from their process. Second Presentation: You will perform your scene again, now refined through rehearsal and feedback. The tutor may continue to workshop the scene to polish your performance further. Final Showcase: On the last day, your scene will be presented in a formal showcase to a small, invited audience followed by a Q&A session with an industry agent or casting director. USEFUL INFORMATION Do I need previous acting experience? Yes. This course is for advanced students. You must have completed Acting Improvers or equivalent training. How much work is required outside of class? A significant commitment is expected. You will need to rehearse with your scene partner outside of class, come prepared, and arrive off-book. Will I get individual feedback? Yes. You will receive in-depth, personalised notes from your tutor throughout the course. What kind of scenes will we work on? You will be paired with a partner and assigned a 10-minute scene from a play or film. Scripts will be chosen to suit your abilities and push your range. Is there a final performance? Yes. Your final scene will be performed in a formal showcase to an invited audience, followed by a Q&A. Actors are encouraged to invite industry connections to the showcase. Can I watch other actors’ work? Absolutely – and you are expected to. Observing peers is a key part of the learning process.
